In analyzing human trafficking cases, the offenders mainly targeted females and underage children. Myanmar has launched a campaign to fight against human trafficking since 1996. At that time, there was no law enacted for human trafficking cases but the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement had taken legal actions against those who offended human trafficking.

Severe punishments could be sentenced to the offenders with these sections, and therefore, they were effective, it was learnt.
