About 50,000 of the Myanmar migrants in the US were from Myanmar-Thailand border, and millions of Myanmar people are in other countries. At present youths in their 20s from small towns, most of them are females, are migrating to Yangon in search of jobs. Male youths intend to stay in Yangon for a while before they can work abroad.
Remittance from Myanmar expats to the home country amounted to US$ 154 million in 2010, according to the statistics of the World Bank. Myanmar is one of the top ten countries in South East Asia and the Pacific that receive largest amount of remittances.
