Refugees from Buthetaung camp return home

When the situation is under control in most of the areas, the refugees sheltering at Buthetaung relief camp have been escorted back to their home.

Although the villages in Buthetaung Township were not set fire during the riots, the villagers evacuated the houses and fled to safer places as they were scared of violent mob attacks, and consequently sheltered at the relief camps.

These villagers are from southern part of Maungtaw Township namely Thayay-kone-baung, Kaing-gyiywar-haung, Mawrawaddy villages. They crossed over the mountain and arrived at Buthetaung relief camp.

Repatriation started on 14 June and the villagers sheltering at Buthetaung camp were sent back to Maungtaw Township, but temporarily kept them at relief camp in Maungtaw Town. The villagers from Tabeik-taung and Nyaung-chaung sheltering at Buthetaung relief camp were sent back home.

A person engage in relief task said, "The villagers are sent back home if the houses are not destroyed. However, the villagers whose houses were destroyed are permitted to remain in the relief camp until the houses are being constructed."
