Myanmar travelers allowed taking foreign currency equivalent to US $10,000

Myanmar citizens are now able to bring with them any amount of foreign currency that equals US $10,000 without declaring when travelling abroad.

The announcement came after foreign visitors had been allowed to bring US $10,000 without declaring when visiting Myanmar.

The announcement No. 3/2012 by the Central Bank of Myanmar of the Ministry of Finance and Revenue, was issued in line with the order of MFR Notification No. Ba Kha -1/290 (1496/2012) dated 26 April 2012.

The announcement stated that Myanmar citizens are permitted to take any foreign currency in an equal balance of US $10,000 when travelling abroad. However, travelers need to produce their passports, visas and air tickets to be able to take the permitted amount.
