Arrangements are underway to issue E-visa to foreign travelers entering Myanmar beginning end March or early April 2012, it was learnt.
The issuance of E-visa has been undertaken by the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism to facilitate the foreign travelers to enter Myanmar.
A responsible person from the Myanmar Ease Net Co. Ltd implementing the E-visa system said, “We are working on this system to launch at the end of March or early April this year. In the initial period, we intend to issue E-visa for entry into Myanmar at the Yangon International Airport. We have planned to issue E-visa for other entry points into Myanmar at a later date. The globe trotter will have a barcode for the entry visa. The E-visa will be checked through the scanner at the airport. The passport will be secured with a sticker. The visitor does not have to waste time in getting entry visa.”
This new system is under implementation and will be launched soon on www.myanmarevisa.gov.mm. The traveler is required to pass through four stages in securing E-visa such as the filing of personal information, re-checking of the feed in data, settling the visa fee through credit card, waiting two days for the authorization of entry visa, and securing the visa sticker on the passport at the airport.
In the first week of May in 2010, the on arrival visa system was first introduced at the Yangon International Airport and the Mandalay-Tada-U International Airport. After four months, the on arrival visa system was suspended in September 2010.
In the past, the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism undertook the issuance of on arrival visa and subsequently transferred the task to the Ministry of Home Affairs. Again in May 2011, the visa matters are shifted back to the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism, it was learnt.
Currently, the Myanma Airways International is handling the on arrival visa to the travelers coming from Guangzhou of China and from Siem Reap of Cambodia. At a time when Myanmar could facilitate the on arrival visa and the easy cash transaction of foreign currency, the number of inbound globe trotters would obviously rise soon.
